Work Experience in Spain

Working Life

Doing an internship at Universpain isn’t just about work. Interns enjoy a busy social life, organising excursions, nights out and meals in, amongst themselves and with the Universpain students.

Salamanca is one of the most popular student cities in Spain. As well as the University, the city is crammed with private language schools like Universpain, and is therefore brimming with students from all over the world. The city is steeped in history and is the ideal place for students wishing to immerse themselves fully in traditional Spanish culture. It also boasts a buzzing nightlife, an impressive amount of restaurants and tapas bars, and one of the most beautiful squares in Europe; La Plaza Mayor.

Doing an internship is the best way to gain an insight into the working world. Interns soon learn the real value of a Sunday lie-in, and weekends become sacred! If you’ve never lived away from home before, you’ll enjoy the perks (staying out until all hours, leaving the washing up ‘til later) and suffer the drawbacks (messy flatmates, stingy landlords) of having your own apartment. Getting the shopping in becomes a carefully planned routine, designed to fit in around going to work and the fact that nothing is open on a Sunday.

The cost of living in Salamanca is relatively low when compared to larger Spanish cities such as Madrid and Barcelona. A weekly food shop can cost as little as €20, and eating out is also a very cheap option. The tapas bars in Calle Van Dyck charge as little as €1.80 for a portion of tapas and a glass of wine, which is not bad at all when you consider the fact that one portion or two portions is probably the equivalent of a full meal!
