Accomodation

Finding accommodation in a foreign place is always a worrying prospect, especially when trying to do it from a different country.  However, Salamanca deals with a massive influx of students each year, and property owners have really made the most of the student market.  The city is crammed full of student apartments and hostels, and also boasts a wide range of hotels.  The University website is the best place to go when looking for an apartment – the site is updated nearly every day and provides flat hunters with a description of the flat, an address and contact details.  Interns will also notice a large number of flyers around the city, advertising flats and providing removable tabs with phone numbers, making it really easy to collect a list of numbers in no time!  Thankfully, Salamanca is a relatively small city, making it possible to visit at least three flats a day.

However, for those who would prefer to have their accommodation organised before the start of their internship, Universpain also offers it’s own accommodation in student apartments.  The apartments are located within a short walking distance of both the school and office, and are equipped with microwave, washing machine and television (three top student must-haves!).  Each flat accommodates up to four students at a time, and with the mix of nationalities that Salamanca tends to attract, living in a shared apartment is the ideal way to get to know people from different countries and make friends straight away.  These flats can be booked on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis – students can use them as temporary accommodation while they find a more permanent residence, or can choose to stay put, saving the hassle of having to look for accommodation and start a new job at the same time.

Accommodation prices in Salamanca are generally fairly low, and landlords tend to be quite fair.  However, it is important that you sign a written contract before handing over any money, and that your landlord gives you a receipt for each instalment.  Verbal contracts are by no means secure, and some landlords are less amenable to others when it comes to giving back deposits.
